Miles Kay

Today Miles is 2 mos.
Just in the last 48 hours I've noticed a change. He is smiling a TON. He is really taking in his surroundings. He is starting to "coo" Seems to really zone in on Jack. ( Not sure if its out of entertainment or just a defense mechanism.) He looks like a little mole. my little mole. Could possibly have dimples. Has a heart shaped hair line. Currently isn't nursing too well. He is sleeping through the night. (and no I don't let my baby "cry it out") He has a clogged tear duct. and flat spot on the back of his head:) He is sleeping in his crib now. He is beautiful. I had so much fun making these simple bumper pads, but even more fun picking out the fabric. I could look at fabric all day. seriously. Right here is where Miles slept his first two months of life. Jack only made it 2wks before I kicked him out and put him into the crib. I have to say, I'm more relaxed with the second and it was even a little tender moving Miles across the hall. My mom bought this same hammock for all her daughters. (me, Meshan, and Becca) Rebecca gets to use it for the first time this Spring!

Flash mob!

I was introduced to this via my SIL...so cool.
Kind of makes you think of this Modern Family--Mitchell's "love letter" to Cam. hehe

Blessing day

Last Sunday we blessed Miles and of course he looked adorable. My mom's friend crocheted him little suspenders that turned out perfect and I made some booties to match. It was really fun to have family and friends around, and I loved hearing Brent bless our sweet son.

For you...

"For you I want to sing a happier song, For you I'm gonna try to right all my wrongs, For you I'm gonna break my bad habits, There's a golden ring and I want you to have it..." --Duncan Sheik *our song* __________________________________________________ Today Brent and I are celebrating our 6 year anniversary! I truly look forward to more good times with him... Brent is taking me to Oz With Orchestra tomorrow night. Yippee!!

October 2010

We have had quite a busy month, what with welcoming Miles home and getting our fill of Fall. We saw the leaves change color, went on a pony ride, visited a pumpkin patch, painted cookies, carved pumpkins, and went trick-or-treating. (that was a hit!) Jack said his favorite part of Halloween is the "CANDY!" Also, when I told Jack we were going to make Jack-O-lanterns, he said "mommy make a mommy-lantern, daddy make a daddy-lantern, and Jack make a Jack-lantern!"

the poop. the scoop. the 411.

Before: After:
sooo, I had an induction scheduled for the 13th but around 2:45 a.m., my water broke! Luckily the Carters got into town around 11 that night so Brent and I were able to rush to the hospital. We missed our exit due to the crappy construction. (thank you Utah for deciding to change, fix, widen, and add a road to every town, exit and street in Utah county. bleh!) When we got there, Brent insisted I ride in a wheel chair up to the third floor. It totally felt like the movies. Then when we got there the nurses asked "wait, aren't you scheduled for an induction today?" It was pretty funny. except that it wasn't, because I was busy getting my contractions on. Anyhoo, we got set up and about seven hours later I delivered a baby boy: Miles Kay Carter 7.4oz 19.5 in. I couldn't be happier about how things played out. Our VBAC was successful, our baby is healthy and my husband is fantastic. I am so grateful for all my blessings. Oh, and Miles you really are perfect.

Asymmetric

Yes. My belly button points to the right. big deal, Symmetry is overrated. Trust me though, this picture accentuates my disproportional outtie. Its not quite this bad, or so Brent says... A little tummy update: As of now I am scheduled for an induction this Wednesday the 13th. I am shooting for a VBAC (google it if you don't understand:) so keep happy positive thoughts for me. Yippee, baby Miles is almost here! Too bad he couldn't come today--10/10/10? yeah?

P.S. You know you're emotionally absurd when friendly strangers ask too many questions about your pregnancy and the baby; and you promptly become suspicious of them and wonder if they are plotting to steal your baby. I'm just sayin'

Beach Ho 2010

We had another successful year (duh.) at the beach house... Here are some pictures of us hanging around the beach, like bums.
We visited the tide pools at Laguna Beach to see what cool things we could find; the starfish definitely won. Jack thinks it was his starfish, so I framed a print of it and put it in his room.
Let the countdown for beach ho 2011 begin!

uncle billy

Every year around Christmas time, I giddily watch 'Its a wonderful Life' and every year I get so annoyed at Uncle Billy for losing all that money in the envelope....
Well today I sympathize with that forgetful, lovable old man--I lost an envelope of my own with the rest of my grocery money for the month inside. I won't go into the details of it all but there was panic, tears and frustration. As I swept the grocery store I couldn't help but stare at the people passing me, and mentally accuse them of stealing MY grocery money. I just hope whoever found the envelope needs it more than I. and hey, at least I didn't lose my kid! (there was a gal at customer service with me who couldn't find her child) This year I won't be so hard on poor Uncle Billy.

The letter H.

For a while Jack has known most of the alphabet and their sounds; but lately he has really become obsessed with singing the alphabet (the parts he knows), identifying letters from signs, and making his own letters out of, say sucker sticks... I'd say his favorite letter is "B" but he has learned how to draw the letter "H" so out with the old and in with the new! I see H's everywhere--The driveway, the backyard, on my rug, on our screen door, and of course on his drawing board. Luckily no walls, yet. I have no idea how/when he figured out how to draw a H. I don't really work on writing letters with him except for his name, and he can write a J. The funny thing is I heard him talking about the letter "H" and making the sound while pulling weeds yesterday but didn't think anything of it. He was happily drawing with chalk on our driveway. Then later that day Brent came home and said "when did Jack learn how to write a H?" I realized he had drawn H's in the frontyard the backyard and anywhere chalk would take. Hmmm. I wonder when the novelty of the letter H will wear off.

6.12.2010

I know what you're all thinking--"Toy Story much?" but I promised some pictures to grandma, and seeing how she bought these jammers I couldn't let her down. Even though it did take a good month or two.
Jack HAD to put both sets of pajamas on. He is like his mother; can't make up his mind.
THE Buzz Lightyear. space ranger.
Sheriff Woody.
Jack's new bike (he originally asked for a pink one but...) this is a push or balance bike and is supposed to help train a kid to ride a bike sooner. but we'll see.
Jacks attempt at dressing himself. pure awesomeness, yep that's butt cheek.
I'm so happy he is mine, he is exactly what I wanted. Can't wait to meet peanut #2, I can feel him moving now. Jack keeps asking if he's hiding.

Ultrasound results are in!

Everything looks great, which is always fantastic to hear and of course its just amazing to actually see your baby floating around in there. Now we can't wait to meet this little guy! I keep telling Jack that he's getting a little brother and that there is a boy in mommies tummy. His reply is "no boy mom, you're girl!" He thinks we're saying that I am a boy...he has been on a kick lately identifying who is a girl and who is a boy. Oh, and this baby boy is way more chill than Jack, or maybe we just saw him right after nap time:)

Winco happenings

Today I ventured out to Winco, a seriously fantastic new grocery store that's come into our area... I wanted to get there fairly early seeing how I sent Brent, coupons in hand earlier in the week only to find out there was over an hour wait...not worth it. So I pulled on my clothes this morning sans shower, and threw on a hat. (don't worry I brushed my teeth!) Jack, well I just left him in his "Buzz Lightyear" pajamas, froggie boots, snot dried face, and out the door we went! I was rather excited about my great parking spot that I forgot to button my pants. I'm totally at the awkward stage of pregnancy where I put my clothes on standing up of course, and think "yeah, this works" but then when I find myself sitting down, it just doesn't. Plus I have this nagging feeling that I am hurting the baby with my tight clothing. I'm crazy. I hurry and button up, and things are good. I find myself on such a money saving high that I don't care that there are a ton of annoying people around me. not today anyway. I was getting my .98 cents fruity pebbles or else... Like they say, all good things come to an end, and I knew I had to make my way to the cash register fast, as my "buzz" (hour later) was quickly wearing off. Hardly any wait, but as I stood there loading groceries on the belt this cute old lady walked by and picked up Jack's boots that had fallen off. I thanked her and she began to talk to Jack, (cute) then she got out a tissue and began wiping his face ever so sweetly for like 2 minutes. Yeah that stuff was caked on. She then said "your mom should always pack a kleenex" still wiping. So true, and so hilarious. I pretty much thanked her again for scolding me and couldn't help but wonder what she did with Jacks nasty tissue. She didn't give it to me and I didn't offer to take it from her. Normally I wipe my kid's face but we were trying to go for the "I really don't give a crap!" look. If I had wiped Jack's face then we clearly couldn't have pulled this off. Keep reading, it gets better. As I'm loading groceries into my car I see a car waiting for my parking spot. I hate when people do this because then I feel rushed and bad and so many other things. I finally get Jack out of the cart and lo and behold he peed his pants. He now wears normal undies, because he is potty trained, can't you tell? eek! car is still waiting, so I rip off his pants and put him in the car seat pant-less; which to me sounds fantastic plus I don't want to clean his car seat cover. I'm lazy. Soooo if any of you find yourself at Winco, make sure you wipe off the cart before inserting your child, because remember? I don't bring tissues with me, so I didn't have anything to wipe the seat with.

"You've got a friend in me..."

This might be my favorite phase of Jacks:
Toy Story. He loves it; watches it once every day. We just alternate between 1 & 2. Can't wait til 3 gets here to give us a little more variety. The Carters bought Jack his very own Buzz and Woody doll that he hauls around everywhere. He is starting to play so well and getting more of an imagination. I love watching this kid grow and learn. I often hear him saying "hi, I'm Woody" or "help Buzz, help!" He tries to sing along with the songs, quotes Woody saying "reach for the sky" and Buzz saying "and beyond!" He also loves playing with his "tatoe-head" (Mr. Potato Head) and told me "Jessie cute." He likes it when she yodels. I love watching Jack's expressions as he watches these movies. He smiles, laughs, and even sympathizes with Buzz when he realizes that he can't fly. (really, he gets rather concernicous)

Jack man.

Jack just doing his thing-- entertaining, snooping, gathering, & browsing.
Here is Mr. sock hands...before falling asleep for a nap Jack pulled every single dirty clothes item out of his hamper, apparently put these socks on his hands clear up to his elbows, and fell asleep amongst his dirties comforted by warm arms. He also did not take these bad boys off for several hours after. He loves rootin' around my bathroom, and after trying on all my hair accessories he ultimately decided he liked these two head bands the most; in fact he wore them to Smiths earlier today...should I be worried?

3.14.2010

Countdown...

Presently: frequent urination, and upset stomach May: expanding waistline July: one word, KANKLES September: loss of oxygen October: Carter baby #2! We are pretty excited for the baby portion, but as you can see the pregnancy body... not so much! (yes Brent too, we ALL suffer)

Day out with the gals

Last weekend Brent and I went home to Nor New Mex to visit family and for me to get a little girl's weekend. It was short but perfect. Amy and I drove up to Durango and stayed with Becca, where the following day we went snowshoeing. It was fun fighting for the front, (because the last person might get snatched by a mountain lion, duh?!) wondering if we were at the end of the "ridge" yet, taking lots of pictures, drinking from a camkelbak, (love those things) falling kind of a lot, and seeing an elk. Which if any of you were wondering; an elk is not the male version of a deer. huh?! who would've known? someone raised around hunting, and residing in Utah? (hunter's paradise.) And I still did not know.

3.04.2010

A little closure?

I finally watched the last three episodes of Pushing Daisies that ABC basically refused to air (despite their contract) until last summer; but they are finally available on dvd now. This is such a great show, its hard not to ask yourself why? why did this show get cut? boo. (its all the reality tv:) just sayin' but really this series is awesome, wholesome, creative and quarky. The music is phenomenal, the style of series is all its own, the narration is fantastic, (its Jim Dale) the dialogue is quick witty banter and the characters are perfect. I honestly can't pick my favorite character--I love em all. but the aunts (the Darling Mermaid Darlings) hold a particular place in my heart. Oh, and don't get me started on Chuck's clothes, I kinda want to be her. So if you haven't seen this, will you promise me you will? (just lie to me and nod your heads yes)

2.26.2010

I'm with this guy!

Loves hanging out in "momma's bed"
His pretty cool new froggie boots.
all ready for church!
dressed up for church again...
is it just me or does this hair-do look a bit like Conan?
I flippin love this kid! He is so sweet, smart, beautiful and full of personality. (can you tell he has some proud parents?) What he's been up to lately:
  • He enjoys cleaning out his toes while sitting on the potty.
  • says "thank you, much."
  • still loves Finding Nemo, and Cars.
  • Can identify and say the sound of letters A, B, C, D, H, J, K, O, P, R. ( I swear by Leapfrog)
  • Would draw all day if I let him.
  • thinks riding in Poppy's car is "fun."
  • loves singing songs. ie. popcorn popping, itsy bitsy spider, bumblebee song, head, shoulders, knees, and toes, ring around the rosy, and old MacDonald.
